Mandatory Documents for tourist visas and why!

For nearly all visas from the United Arab Emirates there is a common list of the mandatory documents. These are a list of documents that are needed when applying for a visa. If the applicant does not have these documents, the visa will not be granted. Some embassies will not even allow you to apply. Below are the common mandatory documents and an explanation as to why they are mandatory.

These are:

  1. NOC from Employer/Sponsor with exact dates and return to duty date. A NOC is a No Objection Certificate. This is a letter from the person/company or university/school who sponsors you here in the UAE. This letter is required in the UAE as all applicants need to have a residence visa to live in the United Arab Emirates. It is the sponsor or employer who have given you this residence visa. This letter is to ensure the embassy that you are not trying to run away from your obligations. There are specific requirements that the embassy want to see on this letter. This letter should be addressed to the correct embassy or consulate (example if you are travelling to Spain It can say to the General Consulate of Spain, Dubai or the Embassy of Spain, Abu Dhabi) it should also mention the exact travel dates. If sponsored by a company the return to duty date should be mentioned along with the salary, start date and position. It should mention that they do not object to your travel. If sponsored by a family member you will still need this permission letter from the exact sponsor minus the salary and return to duty date.
  2. 3- or 6-Month Original Bank statement from UAE account. This is a statement from your salary or income account with traceable funds. The account needs to be from a UAE bank and needs to be in Dirhams (AED). The statement must have a stamp from the bank on each page, this makes the documents original, so the embassy know that you have taken this statement directly from your bank and it is genuine. Your salary or income needs to be credited into your account. This is so the embassy can compare the salary in which you receive to the salary mentioned on your NOC. It is also for the embassy to see if you have enough funds for your trip and if you have the funds to return to the UAE or country of nationality after your trip.
  3. Passport size photos with white background. These are a clear color photo of your face 3.5mm X 4.5mm (excluding USA which is 2” X 2”) with a white background. Not older than 6 months. It should be a frontal view of the head; it must be recent and lifelike. Facial features and eyes must be clear, and your face must not be covered by hair or glasses.
  4. Original passport valid for 6 months with residence visa valid for 3 months from departure dates. A passport is a document issued by your country of Nationality, which allows you to travel. It must have 6-month validity from the planned departure date of travel when applying for the visa and must not be older than 10 years. The passport must have at least two empty pages (this is so the visa can be stamped on one page and the entry and exit stamp will be stamped on the other free page) The residence visa is a visa issued by the UAE which is a sticker on your passport. It is usually from an employer or a sponsor (family member). It also must have a minimum of 3 months validity from the intended departure date of travel. This shows the Embassy that you have permission to return to the UAE after your trip.

The above documents must be provided when applying for the visa and there are no other alternatives.
